How did I get Spyware?

Well, there are a number of ways you could have got Spyware on your computer, below are just a few of them.

Hidden in an e-mail attachment - often e-mail attachments contain Spyware. These e-mails can come from both people you know and from e-mail address you don't recognize. Often the person or persons trying to infect computers with Spyware will design programs that will automatically send Spyware from e-mail address you recognize. It is also entirely possible you were sent the Spyware by a friend who didn't realize, some times Spyware can be hidden in chain e-mails etc which people forward on to you.

Downloading free music - free music downloads are notorious for having Spyware hidden in downloads.

Downloading free utilities - As you might have seen mentioned on other parts of this site free software is a big security risk and when you download free software which has not been recommended by a trusted source you take a big gamble.

Visiting suspect types of websites - Pornographic or Warez websites are often contaminated by Spyware which downloads to your computer.

Installed when using instant messaging services - Spyware can often have been accidentally installed or downloaded when using instant messenger services.
