Probably the simplest way to do this is to think of the windows registry like your computers little black address book. It uses this book to find the location of files and programs it needs. This is all well and good until the locations start to move and the book becomes full of crossed out entries which means it takes a lot longer to find things. Some times the book is in such a mess that your computer can't find what it wants at all which causes your computer to totally crash. So when you use registry repair software what it does is takes the little black book and tear out the pages with crossed out entries on a replace them with new up-to-date entries. This of course makes the entire thing much easier and quicker to use that in turn makes the computer quicker and less prone to crashing.
